Prevocational Performing Arts Course (National Certificate)
The MGA Prevocational Course (National Certificate) offers a foundation year designed to prepare you for the demands of professional, full‑time performing arts training and provides you with the skills required to audition successfully for the country’s leading training centres.
It is directed at students who have left school (or are about to leave) and are intending to pursue vocational training. This course prepares you thoroughly for the process of auditioning and the rigours of taking up a place on a Drama, Musical Theatre or Dance course. We aim to empower you, expand your skill set and enable you to fully realise your full potential in your future training.
MGA students have gone on to study at the American Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Arts Educational Schools, Bird College, Guildford School of Acting, Laine Theatre Arts, Mountview Academy, Performers College, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and – of course – The MGA Academy of Performing Arts, on one of our full-time diploma courses in Acting, Musical Theatre or Dance!
All MGA Full-Time students are expected to have the following equipment – a definitive list will be discussed at audition stage.
- MGA Full-Time uniform
- Jazz trainers/shoes
- Tap shoes
- Ballet tights, leotard and shoes
- Knee pads
- Dictaphone, notepad and pencil
- Boys will also need a pair of dress shoes and a black suit
- Girls must have a pair of character shoes and character skirt, and a black cocktail dress
A reading list will be provided to all students accepted into Full-Time training.
The Prevocational schedule runs for one academic year over three full‑time terms of training. The course is technique orientated, giving you a solid foundation in the three key disciplines of acting, singing and dance that can then be built upon in future studies.
Course content and specialist classes include:
- Acting and performance
- Voice and vocal technique
- A wide variety of dance styles
- Text analysis
- Audition technique
- Theatre history
- Professional and personal development
MGA’s unique focus on audition technique and professional development will ensure that students are best placed to gain entry into any of the UK’s distinguished drama schools.
Entry requirements and applications
Full course details and information about applying and auditions are available from the MGA office. If you’re interested in joining us at MGA, click here to start the application process. If you are unsure which course is most suitable please contact us and tell us which courses interest you. We are also happy to discuss this at audition stage.
Entry onto each course is by audition only (details provided after application) and applicants should be aged 16 years or over. Auditions are held throughout the year and applicants will be contacted within two weeks of receipt of application form. Natural aptitude, potential and attitude will be key considerations, with academic achievements taking a back seat for once!
Students applying from overseas should apply in exactly the same way. However if attending an audition in the UK is not possible, applicants may apply by video/DVD with supporting documentation from both professional and character referees.
